The community thnuld stand unitpH anrl nil! ci loudly against the greediness of s; national leaders and against the tc inconsistencies of big government. p rhe Carolina community proudly r< recognizes its resnonsihilifv tn s< expose any form of unjustice. c However, our criticism, like d anyone else's, is hypocritical and a cheap unless it is accompanied s< k?/ith positive, corrective and ti progressive measures. s Undoubtedly, I fear that our c community is abysmally guilty of g vain hypocrisy. In the past five d days I have observed group- p cheating in the classroom, stealing s at the physical education building, tl and robbing of a Pepsi machine in fi Ll 1? - I 51 J * me u.a. uunuing. UDViousiy we p have failed to supplement our just r criticism with just actions. Am I to a conclude that Watergate has not d taught our community what I had tl hoped. Rather than teaching us to d examine ourselves and our own t inconsistencies, and then t (.queuing us 10 correct tnem, s Watergate has merely aided us in the art of criticism. s I'm sure that by 1995 another f "Richard Nixon" will evolve. The s circle seems consistent for every c generation. When he does come to s light, I hope we will remember that t we are the ones who allowed s "Nixon's Disease" to prevail in the i Carolina community in 1975. But, r who knows, maybe this is the c generation that will break the f circle. Maybe we are the > generation who, individually, then i collectively, will change before we * criticize. Since all un 1 J * - * ergraauaies ana activities lee aying graduate students pay the ame amount in activities fees, and nese fees are used up each year to inancc the programs, every fee aying student has paid for the ight to the best seat he or she is ble to get under the fairest listribution system that recognizes he quality of all students regarlless of the numberof hours atempted at USC. This system is ased upon student rights and tudent initiative, not on tenure. If the SGA is to gain full student upport and respect it needs to >ropose legislation that conitructively challenges the status \vo for the good of all USC itudents. My long range hope is hat SGA goes through a process of ;elf-appraisal and recognizes that t can be a very vital . and esponsible vehicle for voicing the lesires of all USC students to the acuity and the administration. When the rights of all USC students ire respected by the SGA through ippropriate legislation and use of x>wer the full student body will ally to support their student government.
