News briefs Department head named at GS From Staff Reperts aud News Releases Dr. C. Reginald Brasington has been named chairman of the Department of Child Development in the USCCollegeof General Studies. A Lake City native. Brasington received his Ph. D. in coun sellor education from USC in 1970. He has done extensive podt doctoral work in child and family psychology under the auspices of the Institute of Adlerian Psychology in Chicago. Besides his new position. Brasington will continue as coor dinator of child development programs. for the USC regional campuses. For the past five years he has served in Columbia as the assistant vice-president for regional campuses. Marital enrichment program offered Couples seeking to improve their marriage may now par ticipate in a marital enrichment program being offered at -USC Conducted by the psychological services center, the program is designed for couples who are either experiencing some marital difficulties or just wish to improve their marriage. Action officer's duties expanded Anna S. Durham, the University's affirmative action officer, has been designated additional duties as Title IX coordinator by USC President William H. Patterson. As coordinator, she will be in charge of overseeing im plementation of regulations of Title IX of the 1972 Education Amendments on campus. These regulations prohibit sex discrimination by educational institutions. .The University community may direct inquiress about the act to Durham. Her office is Room 210 of Osborne Administration Building. While Title IX specifically requires nondiscrimination on the basis of sex, the University also complies with all civil rights laws by offering equal opportunities in its admissions, programs, activities, and employment without discrimination regarding race, religion, national origin, age, physical disability or sex. Art professor appointed to panel The head of the USC Department of Art has been appointed to a Presidential panel charged with helping improve graphic designs used by the federal government. Dr. John O'Neil, who holds masters and doctoral degrees from Columbia University, has worked as a graphic and display artist for the Mutual Broadcasting Company and several advertising agencies in the New York area. He has also done free-lance work for Time, Inc., Look magazine and Blue Cross-Blue Shield. The panel n which O'Neil will serve was created after a 1970 study revealed a need to upgrade designs used by the federal governmnent. The panel will be assessing graphics involved with logotypes, seaks, badges, signs, publicatins, reports, posters, books, peroials maps, charts, certificates, mnastheads, letterheads, envelopes, forms, catalogs, bindersand others.
