Group to discuss
of student judicia
By CATHERINE THRIFT
Gamecock Staff Writer "4
An ad hoc committee made up of students and m
chaired by Assistant Dean for Campus Relations
Marsha Duncan,'will meet today to discuss plans for an
reorganization of the present student judicial system. ha
The group, which met for the first time last pc
Thursday, will write a recommendation concerning
the problems of the system, that will be presented to sy
the Student Affairs Committee.
"Their (the group's) intent is to go to groups with a dil
leve of expertise in the matter and solicite their ca
input," Duncan said. But so far we haven't even put
together a letter to send out, since we've only met
once." ' of
THE COMMITTEE was set up to deal with the sa
vagueness and inconsistence of the present system, tal
she said.
sy
"The problem, from my perspective, is there are
too many policies," said Duncan. "There are too kii
many contradictions. It's like a lot of people wrote of
out their own system and the result - an inconsistent
judicial system."
The new recommendation is expected to be a step c
toward establishing a system that the average s
student can understand and that will provide a o
consistent way of handling cases. a

re all agreed on that. And the situation gives me
re discretion that I should have.
IN OTHER words, you come to me with a case,
I I have to more or less decide how it should be

'he committee believes that having an organized

"This is not a type of issue the whole student body
