USC Chick spikes against oi McGuire se( By REX GALE Gamecock Sports Writer Frank MlcGuire has a lot of good news for the fortunes of Gamecock basketball in the years to come. "We have a list of 15 boys all over 6'9"," McGuire said, referring to high school prospects he plans to recruit. The loss of center Tom Boswell to professional basketball prompted McGuire to say, "We've got to have a good big man." MIcGuire, who tamed the "un coachable" Wilt Chamberlain when he coached the Philadelphia 76ers, knows just how valuable a good big man can be. Wel'hae Ntnmae .. to replace AstroTurf By RICHARD McNEELY Gamecock Staff Writer Replacement of the faulty synthetic-turf covering the field at Williams-Brice Stadium has been tentatively scheduled for after the final game of the football season Nov. 22. A general upgrading of the field will take place along with the replacement of the turf Dr. John Moore, assistant to the athletic director, said. The upgrading will consist of replacement of the padding that lies directly beneath the astroturf. THE TURF and padding will be removed shortly after the Clem son-USC game, Moore said, but will not be replaced until spring. The reason for the delay is the I necessity of a minimum tem perature of 50 degrees to achieve an effective bond between the base, pad and turf. "There is nothing wrong with the padding." Moore said, "but it is five-years old. As long as the turf was being removed, we felt it Staff Pheto by Stev. Vai would be beneficial to go ahead ponent and replace it." king big man Ramstein.
