VANCE BUTTS Gamecock Staff Writer Four additional VIP suites have been added to the 17th floor of Capstone--at no cost to the University, according to Harold Brunton, USC vice-president for operations. Brunton said Friday that the re-furnishing funds came from gifts given to the University, to be used at the discretion of President William H. Patterson. "It would be wrong to charge (the remodeling) to the University or to Housing (services)." Brunton said. "They wouldn't profit from it." The idea for additional re-furnishing came, Brunton said, from the remodeling Clemson University did two years ago at its Clemson House. "When we built Cap stone, we put in two guest rooms-we prefer to call them guest rooms rather that VIP suites because, well, they're not that good." Brunton added that there was a need for the extra rooms, even though their addition displaced a number of graduate students who had been living on the 17ths . One of the former 17th floor residents, Nancy Rogers, now a Bates West resident said last week that she and the other residents had received a letter during the spring semester informing them of the changes planned for the floor. "Everybody just made plans to live somewhere else," she said. "I think if the 17th floor had been available we would have stayed there.. .it was a lot closer to camps." She said that she had no trouble in locating a new residence but added, in deference to the recent rise in campus crime, that now "we don't go out at night. "You could go to the library at night, and now you can't.. .you can't walk across the ramp.. .you take a big chance at night."
