The ultimate aim of the visit is provisional ac creditation, which would allow the school to begin teaching its first class of 32 freshman. "They (the inspectors) want to know concrete plans. They want specifics right down to the detail," Mike Spears, the spokesman, said. Results of the inspection will be reported to the school in November. Academically, Spears said, the inspectors are "primarily talking to faculty members." Faculty members were judged on their weight in the medicaT and scientific community as well as the " crucial touchstone... of how are they going to teach these students," lie said. The inspection also included a close study of all facilities the medical school plans to use, Spears said. The medical school plans to use Coker Life Science Building, Booker T. Idenities of the inspectors were not availiable. This policy, Spears said, is to allow the inspectors to make as objective a decision as posible withou' getting involved in the school's local politics The inspector's findings are not final, he said. The study will "advise us and recommend an opening date. Whatever date they recommend we'll open," he said. This provisional period is the second phase of accreditation. Initially, a school must receive a letter of reasonable assurance for accreditation. U-''s medical school passed this first test in Oc tober 1974. No medical school becomes fully ac credited until it graduates its first class. Once the school becomes provisionally ac credited, applicants will be accepted. The first two classes will consist of 32 students. The third class will have 64 students, and the fourth class will be composed of 96 students. es To Study >od Services f and student the food service, to improve the will study the overall workings of the Russell Russell House House cafeteria. a second sub- Definite plans, the source said. study ways that would be worked out at the sub cafeterias can committee's first meeting, which )ular. has not been scheduled yet. icommittee,com- The Russell House facility is tudents, will give being considered separate because roach to student "it supports just about everything s. else" in the food system, James B. r the Russell Campbell, vice president of mmittee were Student Affairs, said. ource said that it The second subcommittee will ng with ARA look at why the Russell House cafeteria gets the majority of the business, and in what ways this business can be channeled to the other cafeterias. For example, the South Area cafeteria might become a pizza parlor, or the Capstone cafeteria might become a steak house. This committee has not set a meeting yet. The final subcommittee, which has not been named by SGA President Steve Hill, will find out what students want most from campus food services. Campbell said, we will seek out the students' concerns without any strings at tached. After a two-week study period. the Committee to Study the Reorganization of Food Services will meet again to discuss the subcom mittee findings.
