That evening, the police came to the owner's room with a search warrant. Finding nothing, they made a phone call and im mediately went next door. The police advised the oc cupants next door that they didn't have a search warrant but wanted to search the room. The police said they would obtain a warrant and arrest the residents if they found any marijuana if they weren't allowed to search the room. The occupants who supposedly didn't know about the marijuana, let the police in to retrieve it. They were never bothered by the police after that. In the drug raid at USC Jan. 22, in which 40 people were arrested, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) undercover agents and Columbia police spent six weeks investigating a tip. A resident assistant who did not want to be identified said he had received telephone calls from -the police asking about pot smokers in his dorm. "We're not here to play poli.emen," the resident assistanVbld the police.
