Three experts in Japanese
foreign policy are traveling more
than 6,700 miles to teach USC
students about their country's role
in world affairs.
Their trips are part of a unique
program at USC to give American
students first-hand knowledge of
basic Japanese foreign policy.
According to Dr. Richard L.
Walker, director of the Institute of
International Studies at USC,
"This is the first time an American
university has sought to teach a
course on foreign policy of one of
the major powers by bringing
several outstanding specialists
from that country over here to give
the feeling, depth and cultural
approach of their country to
American' students."
The three, Hisao Iwashima,
Masashi Nishihara and Masataka
Kosaka, along with Dr. Gaston
Sigur, director of the Institute of
Sino-Soviet Studies at George
Washington University, are par
ticipating this semester in a
graduate level seminar in
Japanese foreign policy.
Sponsored by the Institute of
International Studies, each of the
Japanese professors and Dr. Sigur
will spend three weeks on the USC
