Track Carolina track coach Bill Mc Clut has announced the indoor and outdoor track and field schedule for 1975 which includes a new format for the Carplina-Stat6 Record Relays'Invitational. McClure, in his fourth year at Carolina, guided the Gamecocks to a third place finish in the NCAA Indoor Championships last winter and produced five NCAA All Americans. The Carolina-State-Record Relays Invitational, to be held April- 5 at the Weems Baskin Track, will have eight collegiate teams competing in a non-scoring meet in order to have high-caliber individual performances. Schools represented will* be Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Furman, Georgia, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Carolina. "We have some of the top track schools in the South com, Pting this year and since it's a non scoring meet we should have some out standing individual match-ups," 'oted McClure. "This will give athletes a chance to have some stiff-competition and really have a better shot at qualifying for the NCAAs since they won't have to worry about team points and Chicks wi BY GLENN SAWICKI Of The Gamecock staff The Carolina Chicks brought their record to 7-2 by downing Francis Marion Tuesday night 62 50 at Booker T. Washington Gym. Francis MarionP controlled the opening tap as well as the tempo for the first ten minutes of the game. They moved the ball very smoothly against Carolina's zone constantly hitting the open player for the easy bucket. The Chicks defense then stiffened midway through the first period causing numerous turnovers as Francis Marion tried to work the ball in side. With no conference title to shoot for, our goal at Carolina is always to qualify as many people as possible for the NCAAs and that, once again, is our immediate objective." Francis Marion opened the scoring in the game with a fifteen foot jump shot from the side. Both teams started out cold, and it wasn't until 1:26 had elapsed when the Chicks Denise Nanney broke the ice for Carolina. The score was tied three times in the first half until Nanney put the Chicks ahead with 11:38 left, 14-13. Carolina had a 13 point lead going into the in termission. As the second half got under way, Francis Marion looked like they were going to get back into the game when they scored the first two baskets in quick succebssion. The indoor schedule features dual meets with North Carolina twice, Louisiana State-, and Auburn, plus the Greenville In vitational, the Catholic Youth Organizational Invitational and the Jaycee Invitational at Richmond, Va. The NCAA Indoor Cham pionships will be March 14-15 at Cobo Arena in Detroit, Mich. The outdoor schedule opens with Clemson at home March 1, followed by East Carolina March 8, also at the Weems Baskin Track. A triangular meet is slated with Alabama and defending Big Ten champion Indiana in Tuscaloosa, Ala., March 22, followed by the Atlantic Coast Relays in Raleigh, N.C., March 29. The Gamecocks will face Florida at Orlando April 12 and Georgia in Athens, April 19. Florida State will come to Columbia April 26 for a dual meet. The NCAA Outdoor Championships are scheduled for Provo, Utah, June 5-7. pener ball and turned it over quite a few times in the early going. After the game Carolina's head coach Pam Backus said, "Francis Marion has improved from the last time they had played. In our first encounter with them the Chicks won by 30 points." Backus added, "Everyone had a chance to play in -this game.
