Carolina track coach Bill Mc
Clut has announced the indoor
and outdoor track and field
schedule for 1975 which includes a
new format for the Carplina-Stat6
Record Relays'Invitational.
McClure, in his fourth year at
Carolina, guided the Gamecocks to
a third place finish in the NCAA
Indoor Championships last winter
and produced five NCAA All
Americans.
The Carolina-State-Record
Relays Invitational, to be held
April- 5 at the Weems Baskin
Track, will have eight collegiate
teams competing in a non-scoring
meet in order to have high-caliber
individual performances. Schools
represented will* be Clemson,
Duke, Florida State, Furman,
Georgia, Georgia Tech, North
Carolina and Carolina.
"We have some of the top track
schools in the South com, Pting this
year and since it's a non scoring
meet we should have some out
standing individual match-ups,"
'oted McClure. "This will give
athletes a chance to have some
stiff-competition and really have a
better shot at qualifying for the
NCAAs since they won't have to
worry about team points and

The Carolina Chicks brought
their record to 7-2 by downing
Francis Marion Tuesday night 62
50 at Booker T. Washington Gym.
Francis MarionP controlled the
opening tap as well as the tempo
for the first ten minutes of the
game. They moved the ball very
smoothly against Carolina's zone
constantly hitting the open player
for the easy bucket. The Chicks
defense then stiffened midway
through the first period causing
numerous turnovers as Francis
Marion tried to work the ball in
side. Charlene Dubose led the way

"We think this will be the finest
invitational meet in the Southeast
and the teams entered are ex
ceptional. With no conference title
to shoot for, our goal at Carolina is
always to qualify as many people
as possible for the NCAAs and that,
once again, is our immediate
objective."
"We feel we have a strcng group

newcomers that should give us the

Francis Marion opened the
scoring in the game with a fifteen
foot jump shot from the side. Both
teams started out cold, and it
wasn't until 1:26 had elapsed when
the Chicks Denise Nanney broke
the ice for Carolina. The score was
tied three times in the first half
until Nanney put the Chicks ahead
with 11:38 left, 14-13. Carolina had
a 13 point lead going into the in
termission.
As the second half got under
way, Francis Marion looked like
they were going to get back into the
game when they scored the first
two baskets in quick succebssion.
The Chicks had trouble moving the

ball and turned it over quite a few
times in the early going. Martha
Suber sank two shots after a three
minute dry spell and the life
seemed to drain from the scrappy
Francis Marion squad.
Suber led the Chicks with 20
points followed by Dubose with 18.
After the game Carolina's head
coach Pam Backus said, "Francis
Marion has improved from the last
time they had played. In our first
encounter with them the Chicks
won by 30 points." Backus added,
"Everyone had a chance to play in

ference between this years team
and last years, we have more depth
-and I am not afraid to substitute.
