Coach Frank McGuire said Friday, after the squad's last closed practice session of the preseason, that he would send a team comprised of Tom Boswell, Alexander English, Nate Davis, Mike Dunleavy, Jimmy Walsh and Jackie Gilloon into action against the team's other six players. But, McGuire added, Mark Greiner and Bob Mathias, both are as talented as those on the other team. The .other team will consist of Greiner and Mathias,, along with Stu Klitenic, Chuck Sherwood and freshmer. Billy Truitt and Golie Augustub. English, Davis and Augustus are all from Columbia, performing at Dreher, Eau Claire and Keenan during their hign school careers. But, the current Gamecock team continues to revive the McGuire New York stories, as four players are from that state. Last year some 2.4 million ballots were cast for the nationally televised game. The high ranking in the national sports magazine will bring Carolina into the eye of many throughout the nation, but the fifth position is not the highest spot the Gamecocks have achieved. Basketball Weekly placed the team In fourth. Associated Press' ranking which came out over the weekend had Carolina in the seventh position, while United Press International said eighth.
