Concerning the secrecy with which the search is being conducted, Peters said this due to the nature of the situation. "Personnel matters were confidential," he explained, "this is a basic issue of em ploying a top University ad ministrator." He said another cause for the slowness of selection was the "lack of availability" of some people to be interviewed due to bowl games. "We will announce as soon as a selection is made and as soon as circumstances will permit," Peters said. The circumstances he referred to were those of when the various prospects would be free for interview. ON on s te sek REBEL-SLP-1520 T Long-ra BY LEE POWELL Of The Gamecock staff The Facility and Grounds Ad visory Committee discussed a five year-plan .which considered such items as current and long-range projects as well as the committee's philosophy at a Wednesday meeting. .The tentative plan, drawn by Dr. Richard A. Rempel, committee chairman, will be submitted when approved to the Academic For ward Planning Committee in early December. "Without finishing this ...we do not have any other charge," said Rempel, explaining that the committee's continuance depended on the completion of the plan. The committee, Rempel said, has a good chance for becoming permanent once this plan is finished. The plan, as stands now, is comprised of four parts, each dealing with separate areas ger mane to the committee's functions. Rempel said the plan was sub ject to change. Part one dealt with the committee's philosophy. He said this part was agreed upon by every member. He acknowledged the aid of Dr. Irene Brown, Barry Rosen, Dean for Student Affairs Charles H. Witten and Henry Stilmack in the drawing up this section. The plan's other parts are "logical extensions of the philosophy,"Rempel said. Montgomery and Hudson soon discovered that many ex-inmates who try college or technical school drop out because they don't have enough money. Consequently, a board consisting of 24 businessmen, educators, and correction workers was formed to direct a scholarship for ex-inmates who want to attend South Carolina colleges or technical schools. Harold Brunton, vice president for operations, pointed out that there now exists three separate committees dealing with the parking problem. Six inmates have won the award so far. To further promote the Success Scholarship, a three-day student rally was held at the Central Correctional Institution (CCI) in the spring of 1973. The rally in cluded an art show, a boxing exhibition and several music groups including the USC band and chorus as well as CCI's own rock group. The rally raised more than $3,000 and brought about a resolution by the state legislature which commended the entire Success operation as well as personally commending both Hudson and Montgomery. Brunton said he would favor a peripheral parking movement. An important issue in part two is Green Street. The issue has beft around for a number of years, Brunton noted, and called it "an emotional issue." Rempel said a majority of the committee wanted Green Street permanently closed, but the policy must be negotiated with the University's neighboring area residents. ca's staff project started when he read that gubernatorial candidate Sen. James Edwards stood for im proved criminal justice. He decided to test the senator's seriousness and went to see him about the possibility of starting a graduate school in criminal justice at U}SC. After Edwards realized a graduate school would improve law enforcement in South Carolina, he introduced an amendment which allotted $150,000 to establish a graduate school of criminal justice at the University. The amendment was seconded by Sen. Rembert Dennis almost im mediately and had no trouble in passing the Legislature.
