The bill, proposed by Brad Wehler, marked the beginning of the end for this year semester's evaluation project. The remaining $3,500 appropriated for the project was sent back to the unallocated funds account in a senate vote which passed, 25-12. Wehler proposed 'he amendment because he. said he felt the.project was not as usefulsit could be. Many of the graduate schools at the, University of South Carolina campus look at the NC as an F and compute their own grade point Wednesday night evaluatioi answering senator's questions, hi commented, "I was a stroni proponent (of the evaluation) whet it came out." He said he came t4 the conclusion that the projec "cannot serve the full functiot which it was intended to do." He notified the senate thal between 40 to 48 per cent of th4 -,students now pre-register in som4 way. He said after conferring witi various members of the project, h4 learned that there was no way th4 evaluation could be out by pre registration. Others figure an adjusted GPR for the NC to determine what the GPR would have been if the student had received an F in the course. They use this figure as reference and not as a basis of their final decision to let a student in graduate school. Dr. Nicholas P. He said he had t no specific recommendations as to i how these reverted funds should be used. An amendment to -the bill was proposed by Gary Latimer. It called for $500 which had been appropriated to other projects of the Office of Academic Affairs to also revert to the SGA unallocated funds account. Weaver Grayson commented that the amendment should be kept separate from the bill since some people may accept one and not the other. Manfbrd Helbig, a commercial education major, echoed the opinion of many USC students. "I at first supported Ravenel," he said, "but when he was disqualified, I supported Edwards. Dorn was not the person people voted for and Edwards was much closer to Ravenel's beliefs." "I was happy to hear Dorn didn't oad school? "We don't look upon the NC as prejudicial grade but it does mean that you have failed in some way to complete the course. It is more of a subconscious thing when other schools see the NC. - Many schools see F instead of an NC, however." One school that said they looked upon NC's as an F was the Chemistry graduate school. Director of Graduate Studies, Continued on Page Four ialted for While on the subject of the unallocated funds account, Robert Kilgo, co-chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, proposed a bill to provide money to pay for the hot-line telephone bill of Women's Affairs. $240 was appropriated for payment of the phone bill through the fiscal year. Kilgo expressed a need for the service to continue, and commented on how useful it has been so far. Russell Putnam, co-chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, said since a lot of people use the servict. "it would be very detrimental to people's health to cut it off." "Edwads bas more new ideas than Po-n . Dorn is an old man who has been around for too long," he said. Harrison Heller, a law student said, "The Democratic Party blew It by not defending Ravenel." Heller said he was unMhappy Ed wards won, but he doesn't expect ary noticeable changes in South C1rolina government. "The governor in this state is a weakling," he said. Gall McCutcheon, -a nursing student, said Edwards was the better of the candidates, or at least the lesser of two evils.
