Tuition increase pc Budget BY RUSSELL BOYD Of The Gamecock staff The South Carolina Higher Education Commission (HEC) heard budget requests of more than $175 million from nine state supported universities Tuesday, including a $55 million request from USC. The USC request, present by President William H. Patterson, represents an 33 per cent increase over this year appropriation. Such a proposal would be for mulated after the final budget requests are announced and presented to the USC Board of Trustees at its January meeting. The exact duties of Mr. Dietzel as director of athletics will be determined at a later date." Dietzel announced Sept. 21 he will step down as head football coach at the end of the current season. He has served as head coach and athletic director since 1966. Before coaching at Carolina he coached at West Point. In resigning, Dietzel said he would like to stay at USC as athletic director but the final decision would be up to the committee. The Committee also re elected Peters of Hampton chairman at the Saturday meeting. Also Saturday, an organizational meeting was held of the special committee Patterson appointed nine days ago to search for a new coach.
