Even all the great Tech teams of the past c9uld not match the awesome offensive show that this particular Tech squad displayed in rolling up a record 487 rushing yards and a record 29 first downs in a 35-20 victory. Quarterback Danny Myers had played in the defensive secondary last season where as he said after the game he helped make Grantz a All-America candidate. This year the 5-11, 187 pound junior from Atlanta directe<l the wishbone offense almost flawlessly. "We didn't have any let-downs. tonight," said Myers in the Tech dressing room. "The Wishbone offense is simply a game of execution. We knew their defen sive ends would play loose on the corners allowing us to cut inside. "Yes, I was surprised to see them (USC) use two quarterbacks because I remember what a great game Jeff Grantz had against us last year,"said Myers. "I think he should have gone all the way. Myers rushed for 115 yards and completed three of five passes for 24 yards. Left halfback David Sims led all Tech rushers with 126 yards in 15 carries. The balanced running attack was aided by right halfback Pat Moriaty weho earned most of his 82 yards through Carolina's interior defensive line. Fullback Rick Hill finished the night with 77 yards in 14 carries. These four Tech runners fan 56 of its teams 71 rushing plays and accounted for 393 yards. "I thought our offensive line fired - out real well," said Sims. "They deserve a lot of praise in our win." Morlaty added, "Our offense really jelled tonight. It makes a long hard summer of preparation worthwhile when. youwin." Tech had coach Pepper Rodgers selected Myers, Sims, and Moriaty to appear on a post game television show. "Here are three of the reasons we won," said Rodgers. "Of course it was team effort but these three guys were our keys." Rodgers would have to be con sidered one of the more liberated collegiate coaches in the country; ceertainly one of the more likeable. Rodgers was a friend of Riggs .-while he coached at UCLA the past three years before assuming the head job at his alma mater this season. "'I am never disappointed in winning,' he said.
