USC officia Free taxi S4 BY BILL PRATT Gamecock Staff Writer A campus taxi service for university personnel has -been established in an attempt to ex pedite official business more ef ficiently according to Harvey Anderson, of the Division of Business affairs. The new system, inaugurated Sept. 3, is designed for the use of department heads, deans and other university personnel who have previously been using personal cars for university business. "We felt the need for this type system. People were using their own cars for official business," explained Anderson. The average time required to pick-up a caller is six minutes, he said. This is from the time a call is recieved by the dispatcher who then relays the request to the taxi by radio. "No written authorization is demanded for use of this service," Anderson continued, authorization may be obtained from the department heads, provost, vice president or president. All a person need do is call the service, identify himself and tell from whom he received the authorization. Although still in the trial stages, the major goal of the system is efficiency. Anderson said response to the new service has been slow but steadily increasing. There are no charges for the taxi at present because it is in the trial period, but, Anderson said, a fee would probably be made if the system becomes a permgnent service. "We feelit will be a help to its users. I do forsee a possible per manent setup if the trial is suc cessful," Anderson said. LP TED NIGHTS BURGER KING Game*CO&I >Specid!
