Rapids Race
The University Union Trips and
.Expeditions Committee is
sponsoring Carolina's first annual
river raft race at 2 p.m. April 6.
rganizers of the race said it will
begin at a point north of the 1-20
bridge acorss the Saluda River and
will finish at the Blossom Street
Bridge on the Congaree River. The
course is about five miles long.
Rafts can be made of any
material, but cannot cost more
than $25 to build. The rafts must be
hand-made and no commercially
available rafts will be allowed to
run. Organizers said the entry fee
is $2 and all rafts must run in a
specific category. Categories
available are: commercial, Greek
(fraternity of sorority), all
female, independent, dormitory or
mixed (male and female).

taken precautions to insure against
injury or accident. There will be a
manditory portage of the "rapids"
(located at the SCE&G power lines
just north of Riverbanks Park.).
An organizational meeting will be
held at Russell House at 7 p.m.
March 27, when the race will be
discussed in detail.
