SAC C BY MARI MASENG Arecommendation to fund sports clubs, including wrestling and soccer, was passed by the Student Allocations Commission (SAC) last eek. The money used to finance these clubs will come entirely from the student activity fee, with no help from the athletic department. Although wrestling and soccer participate in intercollegiate competition, the athletic depart ment has refused to include them in their program, leaving the entire responsibility on the SAC. As the result of a federal requirement, the athletic depart ment now funds equally educational opportunities for men and women. Leventis said the main concern on his mind right now is the USC governance proposal and the decision as to what his stand will be. He also said the appointment of a 2 cabinet and court members were s important issues to be confronted. Leventis, who takes office April 2, plans to continue the SGA"s curre'it battle with housing. Clubs 'I feel like the athletic department hould support the sports. They on't need to accept them on a 100 er cent basis. If there is any way hey can accept them on a varsity >asis and just pay cab fare, then hey damn well should do it. Nine clubs now are funded listed with the SAC as club sports to be funded. They are rugby, sailing, ;port parachute, cycling, bowling, ;occer, wrestling, skiing, and surfing. The SAC defines a club sport as a chartered student )rganization whose primary purpose is to perform a par ticioative athletic function - Last year the SAC allotted $17,122 for funding club sports. The wrestling club was given $1,453 and the soccer club, $7,721. A total of 252 students were inv!oved in club sports this year.
