Assistant Coach Ed Miller said of Ed Tyler ...captained winning team. the meet, "This meet gives the coaches a chance to see the swimmers for the first time in the season in meet conditions and competition." The Garnet team, captained by senior Ed Tyler, defeated the Black team ca tained by senior 1208 Knox Abbott Drive, P. The many freshmen that Head Coach Alan Gentry and his staff recruited were the highlight of this surprisingly exciting meet. Out of the five meet records that fell, three were broken by freshmen. Tom Jacobson won the 200-yard IM in record time, while Fred Eh mke also won while breaking a record, Mike Drummond was the last of the record breaking frosh as he won the 200-yard breast stroke. Ray Klitzke a freshman diver did not break any records, but he did finish first and second in the two diving events. Sophomore Tom Schmidt con tinued his sinning ways as he won the 1000-yard freestyleand the 100 yard freestyle. Other victors were Nick Kesslering, winning two events, and Jay Tingen, Chip Newman and Casey Claflin, all with one win each.
