Mode~.to.C It's Not Bi But Girls' BY BILLY BAKER Spbrts Writer It Will never rise to the ac claims of Frank McGuire's basketball road show and it will never be staged below the bright, blinding lights of Williams-Brice Stadium, but in a real sense Carolina's women's volleyball team is represenative of what sports one time was: - a way of ex pressing oneself in skills with little regard to the demands of winning and the pressure of losing. Coached by Violet Meade, the women's volleyballers sport a 3-3 record to.date and will meet Limestone and Lander colleges tonight in the Physical Education Center. "We have spent a lot of time practicing," said Veade. "You really don't know what a volleyball match is until you see one. They are really ex citing." Last Monday hight the USC women's volleyballers en tertained three other schools in a tournament staged at the PE Center before 300 people. The Gamecocks won their first two matches before losing two games In a tri-match with Francis Marion and Coker on Oct. 11. The girls play a "power" volleyball game which is different. from the way most people play' "backyard" volleyball, Meade said. It is exactly like the way volleyball is played in the Olympics and -their is no distinction from men'svolleyball. Spiking is the forte of "power" volleyball and usually results in a quick score for the team who em ploys it. "We have worked a long time to illustrate to the school administration and the public that women intercollegiate athletics is a serious thing," said Meade. The team roster of twelve girls includes: Karen Ellin, Debbie Horres, Sue Wilerson, Vicki Robinson, Harriet Ed wards, 'Rose Argoe, Debra Woods, Annette Gibson, Lee Branch, Melissa Dean, Shay Kelly, Charlene Dubose and Alice Carter. "I believe this- is the best team we have ever had," said Meade. Meade is assisted by Sarah McDearmon. - The state regional meet is the third weekend in November. "We plan to win it," said Meade.
