North Carolina State capitalized
on numerous Carolina mistakes to
win the First Carolina Invitational
Rugby Tournament 7-4 ending the
Gamecock's home winning streak
at 37 games.
Missed penalty kicks and hard
hittiqg defense by both teams
dominated the first half of play. At
the end of the first half the two
teams were deadlocked in a
scoreless tie. The Wolfpack missed
three attempts for field goals while
Carolina missed on one attempt.
The second half opened with
State missing another penalty kick
but Carolina's luck did not hold out
as the Wolfpack converted on a 30
yard penalty kick to give the
visitors a lead they did not
relinquish.

scored four more points to lead 7-0.
As in the past Carolina came
back, but this time it was just too
late. On a pass play that used every
back that Carolina had they moved
the ball down the field and Dwight
True scored as he scampered in
untouched.
In the closing minutes of the
game, play traded hands
repeatedly with Carolina trying
desperately for a score. Carolina
could not capitalize on two more
scoring opportunities and because
of their inability to score lost their
37-game winning streak and title of
champion of the First Carolina
Invitational Tournament.

State downed Atlanta 14-10 to
