USC Coach Improved Carolina football coach Paul Dietzel's Condition was reported improved Wednesday afternoon by Baptist Hospital officials. Dietzel was admitted to the hospital early Monday morning suffering from an inflamed intestine.and high temperature. According to hospital reports, Dietzel's temperature was back to normal Wednesday morning. However, they would not speculate whether he would be released from the hospital before Saturday's game. The hair length rule stipulates that hair must be cut above the ear. The curfew requires players to be in their rooms by 11:30 every weeknight and by 2:00 on Saturday night. Former Carolina star receiver Jackie Brown, now assisting the team in a coaching capacity, said, "Jim was confused with himself. He was just tired with football here." Collins quit the team last Wednesday but he was talked into returning the next afternoon and did not miss a practice. The reason for his quitting as explained by Coach Paul Dietzel last week, was a death in the family. Jaynes said Collins' reasons for quitting were basically similiar on both occasions;. Jaynes said Collins may be the most talented athlete on the squad. "We're not asking him to do any more than we ask the rest of the squad to do," Jaynes said. "Any organization has to have rules and regulations. No one individual is more important than the squad. "Jim has the same problems as the normal student," said Jaynes. But, Jaynes added Collins was unique in this situation as his actions do not reflect the attitude of the squad. "I'm not certain he has quit the team," Jaynes said Tuesday. "I asked him to do some things and I'm not certain that he has had the time to get them done." Jaynes did not elaborate on what these things were. Collins did say on Wednesday he has definitelyquit the team and has no plans to return. Collins is perhaps the first starter to ever quit a Carolina football team after the season has begun. Collins disappeared from his room in the Roost early in the week and several members of the team and coaching staff stated that they did not know his location. Collins was located off-campus where he was staying with an academic advisor.
