U I opinion "It is a newspaper's duty to print the news, and raise hell." -Wilbur F. Storey, Chicago Tribune Gosharootie ! We note that the USC Board of Trustees decided to name the Administration building after long-time board member Rutledge Osborne. Osborne has been a member of that august body since 1447, and presumably has outlived most of the people who were on the board that year. Now, all this is very nice. People are entitled to know who their public buildings are named after. But how many people have heard of confederate general Epaminondas J. Capstone, orbeloved USC janitor Cliff Bates? It seems a few years ago that certain public relations people thought it would be a fine idea to print picture postcards showing the more beautiful sights around the USC campus. USC in all its splendor. When they got around to Capstone dormitory, somebody put out the word that the dorm was named after the famous Confederate general Capstone. This information was neatly provided on the post card. The Capstone legend was born. Soon, everyone thought that Capstone was General Lee's right-hand man. The dormitory was aptly and justly named - for a non-existent character. When the PR people discovered their mistake, the postcards were withdrawn and replaced with em barrassed smiles. Before Bates House was named after a former state treasurer, it was known as Cliff House. After the dedication ceremonies in Fall, 1969, the rumor got out that-the dormitory was named for Cliff Bates, beloved USC janitor who fell to his death cleaning off debris on the top floor. But that one didn't make any postcards. So after all these years, the Administration building has a name. Gosharootie and hot dog.-. . Once a building project starts around here, it seems it never gets finished. And it doesn't get named until the appropriate committee has deliberated and chosen the person after whom the structure is to be named. Therefore, let us watch for the Thomas F. Jones T Reflecting Pool (either the one in front of the Un- 's the dergraduate Library or the one by the Humanities Pe3 Building) or the John C. Letters Bikes 4and To the Editor: Due to the increase in the num ber of motorcycles on cam p us we now have a new problem, a hard time legitimately parking a motorcycle. If anyone has noticed that here is an ever in creasing number of motorcycles but to an increase in parking spaces for them. The result is obvious. People park them nearest their class room and hope they don't get a ticket for parking in a tree zone. Since a motocycle takes up relatively I ttle space it should be possible to place small parking spaces near more class rooms. There should be a new Place to park motorcycles near the new law complex. Every day there are least 10 motorcycles parked on the grass by the new law com plex at the mercy of your friendly traffic officer. So far no C raf.
