"There is growing concern that the students should be involved in governing the University. "What we really need is communication between the administration and students," she said, "At present ther e is little to no communication "A structured University Senate is really needed now. The students and faculty need to know what is really going on. Getting the student body thinking and talking about the University Senate would be the first step in acquiring the main goal of a University Senate. "Most decisions are in effect by the time the student body knows about them. That's a total lack of communication. That only leaves the students with one thing to do and that is react to the decision already made. Students want some control over their lives here and they have very little or none." A proposal for a University Senate will be drafted by a joint committee of three faculty members, three ad ministrators and three students. Also a committee has been formed by the Student Senate to look into the feasibility of a University Senate and also to educate the students on the topic of a University Senate. McKinney tudent S4 negatively on the bill, ob jecting to some of the ex penditures for food and transoprtation. Senator Angela Wright felt that the party was basically a good idea, but that too little money was being used for food, and that too much was being spent for transportation for the on-campus residents, without any consideration for the off campus students. She said "the party was not any thing for the whole student body, but just a beer bust .like the fraternities have." Sen. Elliott feels, however. is' communication ministration lents' -lave No nney expects opposition to this proposal, but with student and faculty support she hopes this opposition will be overcome. McKinney also said that students are told during Orientation that they are adults here. "They have more freedom, but students should question the statement. Are you really being treated as an adult where you have no say in any of the major decisions that affect your life? Is there really any more freedom here?" McKinney believes the Student Athletic fee is another issue that needs to be questioned. She feels that students are quite capable of handling the student athletic funds. "More money should be spent on women's and club sports. This year only a small token was given to women's sports by the Athletic Dept. Clubs and women's sports will have to have more money if they are expected to survive. The most important reason why the students should control the money is that it is their money." Another area of SGA concern is teacher evaluation. "TheUniversity needs to have teacher evaluation. All professors here at the University need to be evaluated by students in order to expose the good and bad instructors." McKinney said the teacher (See McKINNEY, Page 2) 9knte that the party will be a success. -He explained that he was not trying to provide a dinner for those attending, but a relaxed atmosphere and a good band that would promote contact between students and SGA representatives. Providing the outcome of Friday's party is a success, McKinney said that she hopes to promote other ways for the Students and the government to get together. Expected attendance for the affair is 1400. Several senators questioned the capacity of the armory.
