Or so go the roles facing three USC students appearing in Ben Jonson's "Volpone" next week. The three zanies are Vol pone's illegitimate children who personify the gross charac ters that someone like the gold greedy Volpone would father. Amanda Graham, who plays the hermaphrodite Androgyno, said "Volpone just keeps us around for pets. We're three lit tle puppies or pigs who are always clowning around." She explained that in. Ben Jonson's day, deformed creatures served as entertainment and Volpone keeps the zanies for that reason. Graham, a freshman theatre major, said she will be dressed as a man in the play "but.I won)'t wear a bra and my white blouse will make it evident that I'm an hermaphrodite." Her costume will also feature, a codpiece and she will wear a moustache to help achieve a masculine qual ity. She has been studying the way men walk and hold them selves in order to make her character at least half male. The eunuch Castrone is being played by USC junior Benny Bartley. Being a eunuch, he is trying to accomplish a sexless character. "AMthough eunuchs have some male features they are much softer. I think of Cas trone as being a pretty male." The zanies sing in the play and Bartley must sing falsetto, somewhat castrati. He has been rehearsing with Dr. Fred Teuber to achieve this effect. Bartley said his costume is neuter; pants and a knee-length tunic. Most eunuchs are por trayed as bald but Bartley erplained that a skull cap would Liz Schuette presents tickets to Mrs. Jones, wife of USC President Thomas F.
