David Rosenblum a junior history'major with a 3.3 grade poi*t ratio said the student gov erneient must establish active student involvement in the planning and direction of the uniVeirsity. Rosenblum said "people support what they create." He said the SGA must establish student input into the area of student government. Rosenblum said must change SGA from a "transient, ineffec tive" body to a "permanent, progressive" body. He said SGA has to become a responsi ble part of the administration - by going "all the way through" with their proposals. Ultimately, Rosenblum believes that a University Sen ate will evolve. Kavanaugh To James Kavanaugh, 20th cen tury troubador and one of the most popular poets in America will appear here on March 13, 1973. Kavanaugh will present a poetry reading at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, in Russell House Art Gallery. Also scheduled for Tuesday is a lecture entitled "A GENTLE REVOLUTION: THE SEARCH FOR THE CREATIVE SELF" at 7:00 p.m., Room 310 Russell House. Kavanaugh first gained pub lic attention when he published his controversial book, "A MODERN PRIEST LOOKS AT HIS OUTDATED CHURCH." Publication of his second book, "THE BIRTH OF GOD," increased the demand for his appearances on talk shows and the lecture circuit. His first book of poetry, THERE ARE MEN TOO GENTLE TO LIVE AMONG WOLVES, was published on its own merit in 1970. He said each proposal should be evaluated so the next president will have a foundation to continue the work. Bryant Wright, a junior Eng lish major with a 3.1 grade point ratio, said all the candidates recognize the same problems, but "communications" with stu dents must begin again. Wright said this was the "greatest weakness of SGA" now. Wright believes that the student senators should listen to the stu dents he represents and con sider their ideas. He said the people would support SGA more if they were "personally involved" in the functions and ideas of SGA. He noted that the University provided inadequate informa tion in spite of the fact Student government attempted to co operate with them. Spinazzolo expressed pleasure over the fact that the widening was stopped but was concerned about certain com ments he had heard from administrative officials which gave him the impression that the widening may still take place in the future. University Dining Ser zoIo Spinazzolo said that after the Pickens controversy, Student Government met and proposed to the University a Horseshoe renovation project. Letters were sent to Edgar Brown, president pro-temp of the South Carolina Senate and several Horseshoe alumni in a lobbying effort to force the South Carolina General Assem bly to appropriate money for the project.
