Cooper coi enters nE The next construction phase of the new Thomas Cooper Library will begin soon and involves the most massive undertaking ever made by the University, according to Harold Brun ton, vice-president for busi ness affairs. Excavation had been sub stantially completed and next approximately an acre of concrete base will be laid. This four-foot thick foundation slab will be tapped by a five-inch floor The total process will require nearly 6,000 cubic yards of concrete requiring approximately 700 truck loads of concrete. It will hold approximately 1,500,000 volumes and seat 3,000. Brunton said it would have more locked enclosures for graduate students and faculty members than any other library in the country. Designed by Edward Stone, the library is the largest building project the University has had since the coliseum. It will com bine music, education and McKissick libraries and certain reference works presently stored in the Coliseum.
