Michael J. Mungo, a
member of USC's Board
of Trustees, grew up
during the post
depression era.
"My father died when
I was ten or eleven. We
were very poor," Mungo
said. "I lived in Bethune,
S. C., but finished my last
two years of high school
in Rock Hill. Oh hell, I
worked my way through
high school and college
-- in those damn mills.
But everybody did."
In Rock Hill, Mungo
worked as a radio
announcer. Finishing
high school in 1945, he
entered the army for two
years and then enrolled
at USC. "When I got out
