Return Commons Room TO THE EDITOR: What happened to the Commons Room? We'd like a place where we can drink coffee and read, study, play cards, or carry on a conversa tion - without benefit of a jukebox. Admittedly the Commons Room was not serving the purpose for which it was originally conceived - a common meeting ground for students and faculty. It was, how ever, an alternative to the circus in the Gamecock Room - an alterna tive that we, other students and occasionally faculty members utilize. The Student Union maintains that the room will only be used as a night club, citing difficulties with secur ity of night club preformers' equip ment during the day. Are these dif ficulties impossible to overcome? Give us back our Commons Room. WILLIAM G. HOWARD ROBERT WEISS FREDERICK K. JONES J. C. NICHOLSON ROBERT H. HEMIGAN JR. F. R. MARTIN RAYMOND K. BENTON JR. THANKS! TO THE EDITOR: The married students would like to thank APO fraternity and all of the girls in Wade Hampton, Sims and McClintock for the Halloween parties they provided for our chil dren. It is sometimes difficult for married students to take their chil dren to off-campus events planned for our kids on campus. See people, students are people too! Thanks for making our campus life easier. VANDA HUCKS CHAIRMAN CAROLINA WIVES Parker fails TO THE EDITOR: After scrambling to keep his head on his shoulders and the Gamecocks in the same stadium, it seems that Grossman has been decapitated by the Assistant Sports Editor. It seems that not only did Mr. Parker fail to research the Miami team, but he took the easy way out and placed the blame on Grossman. LINTON ADMIRAL THE LO Long WI' Si N A IN Consider this TO THE EDITOR: This letter is directed to Bob Eck hardt. Mr. Eckhardt, you are well informed in.regard to Biblical quo tations, but there is one that you have over-looked. Please consider this quotation: "Hurl the stones at her until she dies, but only he that never sinned throw the first stone" John 8:7. This may not be an exact quote, but I think it conveys the intended meaning. CHUCK FAULK Wrong! TO THE EDITOR: This probably will come as a shock to you, but you are wrong. The specific instance is your editor ial of 10-23-72 ("Abortion is a per sonal thing"). Although you certainly have a right to think what you wish, I ques tion your right to use my money to advocate such ultra-radical princi ples as "...religious arguments against abortion have no place"! If, whatever my religion, I believe that life, in the Judeo-Christian meaning of the word, begins at conception, I am forced to' advocate anti abortion laws for the same religious reasons that I oppose any other form of murder. If, then, abortion is not a religious question, there must be none! The original article offended me, but I felt that you had a right to pub lish an article supporting one view of the issue. I am shocked at the editorial, and I claim that such an anti-religious statement is inexcus able in the University's newspaper. You have no obligation to believe what I do, any more than I am obliged to believe your views. However, you have no right to dis miss the carefully studied position of millions of individuals as being "out of touch with reality." It is my belief that your title was correct - abortion is a personal thing - but there are two persons involved, one of whom just happens to be unborn. But beliefs aside, I ask for an apology from you on behalf of all those who were offended by your blatently anti religious stand. BRIAN G.
