SHML T:t Chief justic BY NICK PARHAM Inconsistent, confusing laws and 17 bench vacancies are two of the biggest problems facing the student judiciary, according to Douglas F. Dent, chief justice. "For a court system to pass judge ment on whether or not someone has acted within the law, we must know what the law is," Dent stated. In order for the courts to make the proper determination of what the law is, Dent "implored" the Sen ate to codify and index laws, abolish ambiguous laws, prepare a declara College Students Flexible hours. Vice-president Brunton said that it was possible from an engineering standpoint, but that it "is not economically feasible." The administration considers the project "a joining of two campuses" rather than a seperation. This will be accomplished by constructing a a cites problE tion of student rights, utilize both the Law School and Judiciary Com mittees to research problems, and to complete the sytem by filling the numerous vacancies. Currently, there are five vac ancies on the Supreme Court, three on the Court of Appeals, and nine on the District Court. In his student judiciary progress report delivered at Wednesday night's Student Senate, the chief justice stated that the Supreme Court has thus far devised its own rules of procedure, decided two SG election disputes, one Student HYM Join who I ring selec HYMAN' 1417 Main - Next to F LUM'S MON. 16, UTHI 3:00 PJ1 9 oz. The crosswalk will eventually link the east campus with the west by means of a major walk-way from Russell House to Capstone. Brunton said a "choo choo tarin" may be bought later for campus transportation. Pickens St. will be bordered by vari ous plants and fences. While the Highway Department has agreed to prohibit westward turns onto Green street from Pic kens, they believe that this change will penalize university students the most due to the fact that more than 80 per cent of this traffic is campus oriented. Student govern ment considers the agreement to prohibit turns "little less than pacification" because future plans call for extending Green Street past Valley Park to Millwood Avenue. Although the highway department anticipates no increase in traffic on Green because of the extension, Student Government contends that traffic must logically increase. An environmental study of Pic kens has shown that noise and pollu tion levels will be reduced once the project has been completed. Bids will be taken on the project in late March with the estimated cost at $500,000. The completion date has not been determined. ,ms Union election dispute, and held a judicial training conference. In his closing remarks, Dent asked the senators to put aside "petty differences and personal vendettas and get on with the job of cleaning our own house so that Student Government can gain the respect of the student body and at the same time solve the more impor tant problems which plague all of us at USC."
