The Office of Volunteer Services I coordinates a number of volunteer l projects for students. One major ( project, is recruiting volunteers for the Big Brothers and Sisters y program directed by Clay Nor- t mand. One of the volunteers a summarized her experience as a Big Sister: L Cam Mazure's little sister is 10 t years old and in fifth grade at an r elementary school in Cayce. She has some trouble -eading, so every Saturday when hey get together she reads to Cam or 15 minutes. Cam lives out of own during the summer but this is do problem; they write postcards. Cam and her little sister have :nown each other since last )ecember and have never had any woblems getting along together. .am was worried at first that her ister wouldn't like her, but that vas no problem-the child had een told that Cam needed a friend ind she was happy to cooperate. At first the girl's family was incertain about the program, but his summer her mother sent Cam otes saying, "We can't wait till 'ou come back." Cam has "seen a whole different side of life" in her little sister's background. And according to her small friend's family, Cam has "done wonders" for their daughter. Other Volunteer Services projects include recruiting volunteers to tutor and teach creative dancing at Latimer Manor housing project, cooperating with the Department of Social Services to find in terviewers and a voluntary receptionist for the Food Stamp Center, getting students interested in arts and crafts to help at Saxon Homes Community Center and recruiting volunteer Cub Scout leaders for the YWCA. Blood donors During the Red Cross Blood Drive, supervised by Volunteer Services, two students, left and right, donate blood in the Mike Johnson Lounge at the Towers lobby.
