He connected with Mike Haggard for 21 yards and Bill Cregar for three yards to account for Carolina's two touchdowns. The second was futile, coming with one second to play in the game. Cregar was USC's leading rusher with 24 yards in 8 carries. Parson gained 23 yards, also in eight tries. But Troup lost 79 yards in the USC backfield. We had to do something else, so we threw the ball." But Davis is no Gary Huff. For if Virginia had to depend on his arm, the offense would be even less potent than it is. He completed 11 41 for 159 yards. "We're so young in the offensive line," said Carolina Coach Paul Dietzel, "that we made many, many mistakes. And they were costly." Mistakes had better be at a premium for the next two games: Georgia Tech in Atlanta next week and Mississippi at home in two weeks. Because 0-3 is a bad way to start a season. Any season. Rugby club sets practice for Thursday The Carolina Rugby Club initiates its fall activities with tryouts for the squad and practice beginning on September 14 at the Intramural fields. Positions should be available on the 1972 version ol the Huggers as several of last season's starters have departed and were lost to graduation. The Rugby Club has both a fall and spring sea.son. The fall season will begin with a home game against Davidson Oct. 1.
