The PE center, which *will celebrate its first birthday next month, was designed to be built in three parts "primarily because of funds," Cooper said. 'We are just catching up in our facilities," Cooper said, "and all ready we are finding that we need more space." Durin'the eight month period between September and 4ril 65,000 persons used the PE center during the free Iurs of-4 p.m. to 10 p.m. In addition 50,000 pieces of equipment were checked out--paddle . ball rackets, liasketbails, weights, etc. ;Additional construction includes lighting for the outdoor basketball and tennis courts with a possibility of adding sOveral more tennis courts if feasible. "We are, trying to see where we can add courts now," Cooper said. "You can get on the courts most of the day, eCcept in the late afternoons, but of course that's the best Ine to play." He said most of the facility, including the tennis courts afd outdoor basketball courts, were experiencing maximum usage. Counseling ffered free i:ounseling services will be of f&ed free of charge at the tliiversity Guidance Center beginning September 1. The Guidance Center, located in the College of Education, provides gu)dance and counseling to school c ldren. teenagers and adults w h personal, social, vocational or fa ily concerns and problems. upervised graduate students, w king toward masters degrees ins counselor education, will be available to offer these services to interested persons. "A lot of students still don't know this center is fi everyone," Cooper said. "They think It Is just for F majors, but it was designed for everyone." The multi-purpose building includes eight basketbi courts, a squash court, three handball courts, a room fi dance, archery, weight lifting, classrooms, enduran< 'est ing, physical training room and locker room. Sports equipment may be checked out at the equipme issue window. Users must deposit their ID card and si( for equipment and return the equipment the same day. Sports and recreation equipment available at no char5 on loan basis are: badminton, baseball glovc basketballs, footballs, golf clubs, horseshoes, jump rope medicine balls, paddleball racquets, tennis racquel volley balls and weights. The squash and handball courts can be reserved for of hour at a time, with reservations beginning on the ha hour. Monday through Friday.
