The close run produced USCtops to end due By JIM HIERSII Sports Writer USC turned what was predicted to be a close meet into a rout by defeating Georgia, 87'2-57'2, in the last dual meet of the season, Saturday night on the Weems Baskin Track. The win was the Gamecock's fourth straight dual meet victory without a loss this year, and twelfth consecutive over three years. "I was really surprised by how much we beat them," USC mentor Bill McClure said. "I thought we could beat tiem but never figured that we would win by this much." Depth was the key to the Gamecock's easy win. While they had only one more first, 9-8, than Georgia, USC piled up a 12-3 ad vantage in second place finishes. Both teams had a double winner, hurdler Billy Novo for Carolina, and Joe Shearhouse for the Bulldogs. Novo won the 120-high hurdles, 14.2, and the 440 in termediates, 53.9. Georgia's star took the 220, 21.1, and the 440 dash, 48.0. The meet started out close as predicted, and it was not until the fifth running event of the day, the 104), that the momentum turned in favor of the Gamecocks. Milton Reid and Jim Small finished 1-2 in the 100, in front of Georgia's Ray Hamilton, to give USC the spark it needed. Reid was Ron . timed in 9.7 with both Small and Hamilton clocked in 9.8.
