Simons' teammate, Eddie Pearce followed with a 210 total to pace the Deacons to the title. USC was lead by Buddy Bostian and Wylie Ramsey, both with totals of 218, followed by David Dupre 221, Jim Hamilton 221, Os Hillman 225 and Wade Mayo 227. Carolina was six under par after the first day of competition with a total of 282, tied with Florida and three shots behind Wake Forest and Georgia.
