Eye in the wrong keyhole DEAR MS. MILLER: It seems apparent that Doug Williams in hs column, April 19, 1972, expresses less intelligence than the average Clemson student he stereotypes as an obscene, imbecile whose only ambitions in life are to watch basketball and start fights. I can only feel sorry for him because he must not have the insight to realize that his statements are nothing more than gross generalizations which one would expect to hear from an uneducated and totally prejudiced individual. I am a junior at USC and have been following USC basketball since my freshman year. In no way am I trying to degrade USC basketball or seek a reversal of Coach McGuire's decision to drop Clemson from the schedule. In stead I would rather ask that Mr. Williams first find out the facts; then report them verbatim anc leave mudslinging out of his column. Coach McGuire commented on his decision to drop Clemson at one step in seeking a totally national playing schedule. No more! True, there is a great amount of tension during a Carolina-Clemson game, but so is there with any rival GREET THE WAVES IN 'I SWIMWEAR. As college teams change in personnel from year to year, I cannot understand how Mr. Williams can write off Clemson as a loser forever. How in the world can he possibly judge the talent or even know the starting lineups for the coming seasons. If he is so good at predictions, why doesn't he drop out of school and make bets on games for the rest of his life? Perhaps he's just a little blind, or deaf, or just plain stupid. I haven't been to a USC game yet where some Carolina fans have not made the same obscene gestures and comments as Clemson fams. Sure, there's always a few but they're not always Clemson students. More often than not I have seen and heard cries for fights and violence, and not only at Clemson games. SLED agents are required to attend all games held at the Coliseum. The security force is there to protect players and fans from each other as well as themselves. The legislature doesn't regulate their attendence, nor do they show up only if they feel a fight is probable. I really could care less if we play Clemson or not, I just believe Mr. Williams should show refrain from anti-Clemson propaganda and his jingoistic defense of Carolina. Wake up! MILLER: I would like to comment on the recent thought-provoking letter written by T. A. Rolfe. USC's chapter of Hillel, a national organization of Jewish college students, recently celebrated Israel's independence with no meaning of offense to anyone. We were happy to be granted by the administration a chance to show how we feel toward the Jewish people's homeland and the center of the world's three great religions. We were only trying to have a little bit of fun and share some Jewish culture with the students of this school. Perhaps Mr. Hansen will deny the above reason for setting off the alarm. Our charges are not simply based on hearsay, for Tisclife was present in the lobby when he made the decision. Another hall coun selor also informed those on his floor that the alarm would be set off for the aforementioned reason. This occurred five minutes or so prior to the alarm. Many of the resiaents Know the reason for the alarm. The next time there is an alarm, how do we know if it is for real or simply Mr. Hansen enjoying himself? He did not at all appear serious about the matter Friday night and seemed to thrive on the power within his grasp. we, the undersigned, feel that this should be the last time an alarm is set off for this reason. Prior to the alarm, no less than three announcements were made for girls to vacate the dorm. If this is inadequate, then something other than an alarm should be used to catch violators. Besides, we know that violators still got away and of those caught, if any, will any punishment be dealt out other than a slap on the wrist? This is not to' say that I feel that there should be any punishment. We would appreciate Mr. Hansen explaining himself in a letter to this paper for all to read.
