Earth Day march held (Continued from Page 1) away to drop bombs on people we don't even know," Brown said. Among the protesters were 15 members of Vietnam Veterans Against the War. State Coordinator Tom Hohan said the veterans were demonstrating for "the immediate withdrawal of all American troops from Vietnam." The protesters enthusiastically responded to poems and songs presented by Ginsburg. Many chanted along as Ginsburg read an original poem dealing with the renewed bombing of North Viet nam. Also appearing at the rally was Father Mike Kaney of Greenville, who was among 8 antiwar protesters who made a week long march from Greenville to Columbia "to show our com mitment to fellow Americans to make America a better place." "We walked to Columbia to say no to a system that says we won't bother your color TV but we'll take the most valuable thing you have - your sons," Father Kaney, head of Clergy and Laity Concerned, said. He said they walked about 15 miles a day and slept in churches at night. "We found that there are a lot of nice people in South Carolina," he added. Speakers representing women's liberation also addressed the rally, which was sponsored by the Earth Day Coalition. Another speaker at the rally Saturday was Ellis Rece of Augusta, Ga., who urged the group to refuse to pay income taxes. "It's our war; we're buying it," Rece said. The three-hour-long rally con cluded as a young man burned his draft card at the alter of the church, while the small group of remaining protesters cheered. Police cars now have lights, sirens USC campus security cars now have demountable lights and sirens installed in them, according to Harold Brunton, vice president for business affairs. Brunton said the lights serve a useful purpose even though "they may not be desirable in terms of the image of the campus police." He said campus police have been patrolling Carolina Gardens and Woodland Terrace at the married students' request. "Without the lights on the security vehicle, no one even knew they were there," Brunton said. "It has been helpful at night to have obvious police cars patrolling 'the area and has done a great deal* to deter vandalism in the area." Brunton said another reason the lights and sirens were installed is that campus security vehicles are R Mock to enc By KARIN BURCH News Editoi A mock presidenti will be held Fridi Russell House as the a week of stude registration works seminars sponsoreo USC student voter ro task force.
