Senior e'4P By SCOTT DERKS Staff Writer Blisters came in all sizes and shapes Tuesday at the Senior Class project work day. Beautiful weather prevailed over A.C. Moore Gardens, behind South and South Tower, as about 150 students joined in the work of constructing a walkway, removing a concrete walk and cleaning the pond. "This is the first time in a number of years, I think, that a senior class has actively participated in their project," Camp said. He estimated that about 50 seniors, including many South and South Tower residents, joined in the work. The senior class and core of workers attempted to correct these problems Tuesday. Much of the crumbled concrete walk was broken .up and hauled away, while a gentle switchback walk was meticulously constructed by the teams of students. Jim Hodges, project chairman, said he was very pleased with all the work done. "I think we have shown the University that we are interested in the park and have given them a direction to go. They have agreed to maintain all im provements we made and that in itself is a big step." By the end of the day students had completed the dirt walk, and pine straw will be laid down this week to help hold the soil. Wood chips will be added later. According to Camp the only things the workers were not able to finish were the pond and the demolishment of one of the walks. He said both projects are going to take much more work, especially the pond, and the University is discussing several plans to beautify the lake. A very muddy group of students, who had black mud to their knees, said they took out over half of the moss in the pond. "The moss was killing off the pond and it would 'just be a matter of time before it would have been overgrown," one of thc students said. In addition to student help Burger King was on hand to provide refreshments and about 15 nurseries in the Columbia area donated the 40 azaleas and six dogwoods that were planted Tuesday.
