Gamecock worse than Albert DEAR MS. MILLER: Regarding your Monday's editorial concerning the new Humanities water sculpture, which you complained cost in the neighborhood of $10,000 and did nothing but regurgitate water, I can only say that there is a certain University of South Carolina newspaper that expends much more and regurgitates worse. For my erroneously saluting you as Miss in my last letter, I extend my humblest apologies to you and my most sincere condolences to your husband. THOMAS H. ELEAZER Women want unadulterated sex DEAR MS. MILLER: As a self-respecting masculinist I feel compelled to object to the current nude fold-out of Bert Reynolds in Cosmopolitan which women are drooling over animalistically. We me.n have always been cruelly subjected to sexual exploitation, and this is simply another blatant manifestation of the age old idea that the sole purpose which men serve on this female earth is for the greedy, perverted sexual satisfaction of women. All they want is our bodies! They ignore our other virtues. Raw, pure unadulterated sex - that's all the women of America want. What's more, these women are abhorrent hypocrites. They all claim that they want husbands who are virgins and pure in body and soul, but what they really want is sex with no complications or ties. I, for one, am tired of such abuse and exploitation. The double standard which we males have been laboring under for centuries must be terminated. MILLER: I don't understand why the Gamecock even bothers to print articles that inform its readers about speakers the same day they are to speak. I am referring to Wesley A. Pomeroy, who spoke at 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Since the Gamecock doesn't come out until 12or 1:00 and most people don't see it until after 3:00, why bother to print the article at all? It seems that a school as large as this University should be able to inform the students about speakers at least before they are to speak and not after they already have. LAWRENCE J. COLLINS Philistines have infiltrated Gamecock DEAR MS. MILLER: In regard to your editorial concerning "Albert the Drinking Bird," I am disappointed to see that the Philistines have also in filtrated the editorial offices of the Gamecock. JEFFERY GREENE Gamecock biased toward females DEAR MS. MILLER: Since returning to USC this semester after two years as a non civilian, I've noticed that the GAMECOCK, the "student" newspaper frequently assaults me with its glaring and overdone favoritism of the female sex. Now I believe in equal rights for everyone; I accept this premise as a fact of life. But nearly every issue of the Gamecock either has an editorial on the subject or a letter or two from both sides of the coin. And it gets sickening after a while. Doesn't every student by now know the position of the Gamecock on women's lib? I think so. It stands to reason, then, that all profound opinions which come from Ms. Miller have now reached a stage of redundancy. Just as women cringe at male chauvinism, men are likewise turned-off by the extreme female point of view too often exemplified in the Gamecock. Maybe we're all too sensitive, too worked up about a subject of which there is general, if not nearly total agreement. My point is--let's cool it. from the Unfortunately, the public thinks that its children and teachers are monsters, especially if they serve large state universities, and so condones this infamy, little realizing that THEIR freedoms are withering away with ours. They have all too soon forgotten the humiliation we and our con stitutional rights suffered in the UFO debacle where the State's star witness was bought off as would have been exposed in a higher court if those poor martyrs had taken it to the Supreme Court as they had planned. No. Foard proposed a deal too tempting for the harassed and imprisoned defendents to refuse after two miserable years of fighting it out alone. The State said it would drop charges if they would simply go away--leave South Carolina forever. The truth of the matter was that the State never had a real leg to stand on, as is the case more and more these days under Tyrant Nixon and his allies, and we instinctively knew this from the very beginning long before we talked to those who were intimately connected with the case. Yes, we ALL knew it, the naive but uncorrupted young who can smell a rat a mile away before it comes into view. Let us review the case of Jack Klontz, now professor of Philosophy in California studying under Mar cuse, only one of four professors dismissed for political purposes and departmental intrigue in almost as many years. Professor Klontz, a most able and talented teacher, was dismissed on Foard's persecution--some of the 'evidence' being obtained from his office trash can including a poster of Karl Marx ripped off his living room wall and passed around at a local Rotarian meeting for our aged Puritans to squawk at. Yes, the definition of "solicit" is well written; "to entice or lure, especially into evil." And so, my children, you rioted in the merry month of May, 1970, along with the rest of your brothers and sisters over this and other incidents of national disgrace Kent State, the Cambodian in vasion, and the whole mess created by our corporation-owned and-controlled government the world over. And if you don't think the college and universities, our last refuge and hope, are not also owned, just look at any Board of Trustees--it's enough to make one vomit. I, for one, am tired of the con tempt and chastisement (through the National Guard) of these bankers, politicians, and real estate men towards their betters. I am tired of their god Oro. I am tired also of their many gods to Money and their ingenious ways of taking mine from me, especially to no good end.But what's the use? You, my loyal subjects, and, yes, even I have apparently forgotten our heritage and those things which we have sacrificed and fought so hard for throughout the 60's and early 70's. Somber reflections and our personal safety have made Hamlets of us all. Yes, I.am truly nauseous and ashamed of such a promising generation and, of course, myself. Like JFK, we will be struck down by Mammon before realizing our potential. We will sit back and watch as they drag away, one by one, our intellectual and free-thinking professors, and replace them with mindless technicians of the disposable Plastic Age; we will sit back and watch, stupefied with T.V. Paralysis, as they draw away our brave, ethically concerned brothers and sisters who have something more on their minds besides beer and basketball; we will sit back, we cowards, and do nothing to defend them and our selves as they are incarcerated and dumped into the social gas chambers of ridicule and centempt reserved for dissidents by the unreflective majority.
