It will be manned round-the clock by a professional staff and trained volunteers, and offers the drug user a chance for treatment in a non-threatening atmosphere. Dadajii sc) Thursday i On Thursday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Currell College, the Univ. Union Lectures Committee presents Acharya Yatiishvarananda Avadhuta, from the Ananda Marga (Path of Bliss) Yoga Society. The guru will be lecturing on the philosophy of Yoga. During the day he will give individual meditation instruction. Yoga, in spite of its increasing appeal in recent years, is still misunderstood by many people. Some think it is merely a useless set of physical exercises and contortions like standing on one's head. Others think it is a body of abtruse metaphysical doctrines, incomprehensible and valueless to the man in the street. To many, a yogi is one who sleeps barefooted over a hot bed of coals all day, sleeps on a bed of nails and swallows flaming torches for breakfast. Many people still believe that to become proficient in yoga, one must renounce everything, flee from society and meditate continually in a lonely cave or mountain top. To banish all of these confused misconceptions, Acharya Yatish v^srananda Avadhuta has come to this country from India and has been lecturing and teaching from coast to coast. He explains that yoga is not a religion but a total science of mind, body and per sonality. Ordinarily man uses less than 15 per cent of his mental capabilities: through concentrated neditation he can accumulate habitually wasted energy and channel it toward the development of his intellectual, creative and spiritual powers. By following a clear and simple program of respiratory exercises and mental discipline, the anxious men of this turbulent century can replace their tension with "dynamic relaxation." If this path is followed properly, the mind can, at will, rise above the mundane sense-world and enter into the blissfull state of ecstacy in which it is com~pletely absorbed in the supreme Consciousness, in God. This indeed, is the meaning of the Sanskirit world "yoga": the "union" of the individual con sciousness with the Divine Ground that underlies and directs this phenomenal world. Dadajii is young; only 28 years old; he has been practicing and teaching yoga since an early age. r to meet p.m. in Room 310, Russell House, Wednesday, Oct. 20. :CPfR ffi.ces are Irt..SEOIp . vote igly critized this summer by Dr. former director of the state's ion system, and federal judge r., a member of the Board of en called for Jones' resignation. cutive session meeting of only the ,pt. 16.
