McKendree Spring New USC ticket di*stri6butio rules clarified for students Ticket distribution has been misunderstood by many students, according to Clint Sloan, chairman of the SGA Athletic Com m Ittee. Sloan said many students were using one set of fee receipts to get Into the Coliseum and another set to pick up tickets. ''If a guy comes In with a senior receipt, a sophomore receipt and two datebooks, he can't pick up four senior tickets,'' he said. Students must pick up tickets with the receipt he uses to get into the Coliseum. If he doesn't have the fee receipts In the same class, he must pick up tickets In the lowest class line, Sloan said. He stressed students must still have an ID to get Into the stadium. The reasons for the clarification of the rules Is the Oct. 18, Clemson ticket pick up. Sloan said many students d.dn't real!ze that even though the game is In November, tickets are to be picked up this Monday. Cockfest begins at 7 p.m. with the USC band and speeches by University officials including Dr. Thomas F. Jones, president and Athletic Director Paul Dietzel. There also will be skits by fraternities and sororities based on the theme "The Birth of the Gamecock." After the skits and speeches there will be a 30-minute fireworks display. This is a $1,200 45-minute show that has been compressed into a half hour. The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 8:30. Then McKendree Spring. The group is composed of a lead guitar, bass, acoustic guitar and electric violin and viola. 18 students o USC Medita By CARPENTER KING Staff Writer "Meditation is not free association," said Kelly Hamm, president of the newly formed chapter of the Student In ternational Meditation Society (SIMS) at USC. "It helps you to cope with life better, because meditation releases the stresses and tensions in your body and helps you to think on a deeper level," she said. Miss Hamm is speaking for a group of 18 students who have dedicated themselves to Tran scendental Meditation as a way of personal integration, or fullment. They plan to practice meditation and meet weekly to aid each other and meditate. After hearing Eric Dahl of SIMS, Miss Hamm And her group became interested and decided to band together and learn more. "I get a good feeling inside from meditation," Miss Hamm said. rt fetes est '71 Mike Dreyfess, the violinist, does things with his instrument the way Hendrix used his guitar in the "Star Spangled Banner." He has been described as exciting as Ian Anderson the flutist with Jet hro Tull. One of their numbers, "God Bless the Conspiracy," is a 15-minute Dreyfuss number which simulates war with the sound of airplanes dropping bombs and the firing of guns. McKendree Spring has been said to have "the ability to recreate music not just do it over." Cockfest is this Friday at Carolina Stadium. It costs $1 and though it starts at 7 p.m., ad mission will continue until 9 p.m. with a live concert by a group that has performed for Carolina students, fireworks and skits, how can you lose? eganize, join Ion Society "It's like when you're at peace with yourself, you're at peace with ot hers." Descriptions of meditation vary. They are all vague and mystical and meditators agree it's a per sonal experience that can't really be explained. You meditate twice a day ideally by finding a relaxed position and repeating over and over in your mind a mantra. This mantra is a group of sounds which channel your mind toward its own ultimate inner resources. "The effect is cumulative, but right away you begin to feel bet ter," Miss Hamm said. The final goal of meditation is the mastery and use of the full mind. It is not a religion or philosophy so much as a concrete method for achieving this goal.
