Journ alis newsroon Journalism seniors are receivin practical experience in a simulated newspaper city room. l'he new program i part of a new course cotnbining two courses. The senior practicum is a combination of Journalism 336, advanced copyediting and Jour nalism 446, advanced reporting. To accomodate the mock city room, renovations are being completed in the academic level of the Coliseum. Previously unused space has been converted into a city room along with a new auditorium for General Studies, according to Dr. Albert T. Scroggins, dean of the College of Journalism. Scroggins said the practicum is being established to give jour nalism majors experience in daily newspaper operations, although a newspaper will be printed only once a month. Scroggins said all processes involved, except actual printing, will be initiated each week. Material from beginning reporting ano photography classes and an editorial writing class will be in corporated into a monthly "Carolina Reporter," previously printed once a semester. "The paper will be set up with a managing editor and an Associated Press (AP) wire machine, like a city room of a daily newspaper," Scroggins said. "We have a regular staff which has been organized like a daily," he added. Henry Price, assistant professor * mimi i=tooJ I KA a I LEE. Tickets Only 3" - m adds a course of journalism, and J. Women gymnasts Members of the women's gymnastics team are preparing for a season of competion, while a men's gymnastics team is being formed. "I expect the team to do much better this year," said coach Helen Timmerman, "especially with all six of the girls on last year's team returning." Last year, the team had a 2-2 record, competing with the University of Georgia, Georgia College at Milledgeville, Furman University and Western Carolina. This year an eight-game schedule is planned, adding Winthrop, Duke, University of North Carolina and Eastern Carolina. No definite schedule has been set, but the first meet will be Feb. 4 at Winthrop. Team practices open Monday, Sept. 13 and will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the small gym in the new P.E. building.
