Director Community Affairs, Planned Parenthood-World Population 1isiness Administration Audilorium. Minority groups are clearly identified as being in the have-not category in the U.S. The 'haves' are saying our ship is sinking and we must work together to save it. q he 'have-nots' respond that their has been sinking for a long me and the 'haves' did nothing to elp them. The 'have-nots' do offer a way out of this dilemma if they are listened to and sincerely heeded. They say all will sail on an equal plane together or all will sink Review"*** Jesus Ch "Jesus Christ Superstar," who in the world do you think you are?" For 20 centuries man has asked this question. In every conceivable language, in every conceivable rm, people have sought to know the strange man who lived and ed two thousand years ago was the son of God, a madman with delusions of grandeur or the greatest con-artist to ever draw breath. In the name of Jesus Christ men have bpilt and burned cities, killed and been killed, explored new worlds and sought 'to destroy the worlds of those who would not believe. Yet, after all this time the atrocities and sacrifices com mit ted in his name, no one can be sure precisely who or what Jesus Christ was. Two young Englishmen, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber are the most recent additions to the teeming legion of people past'and 'ent who would interpret the adnature of Jesus Christ. ce the release of "Jesus t*rst Superstar," comment has come from all quarters and has varied from condemnation to standing ovation. Webber and Rice above all depict Christ as a human being, caught in the middle between the master and the masses. In the best Greek tradition, "Superstar" paints Christ as a man who is god like, but still a man, the downfall of so many Greek heroes. Judas is shown as a confused, but well meaning disciple of Christ who wants only to keep Christ from i becoming the pawn and symbol of the crowd that is anxious for a leader in their fight against Rome. Judas is the hero of Superstar. He is the betrayer, but even more so, he is the betrayed. Christ dies on the cross and becomes immortal, the most revered, worshipped and influential man to ever live. Judas, the necessary catalyst fr Christs crucifixion, dies at his own hand and becomes the most hated and despised name or any language, traitor. Webber and Rice do a beautiful job of pitching the historical events around the characters they have created. Pilate is shown initially as FREIGHT EVER RD. 76) A S. C. IE PUBLIC' ) eP.M. RU-SAT. In the album's most moving cut, Pilate implores Christ to save himself. Failing at this, he appeals to the crowd that once worshipped Christ and now calls for his crucifixion. ''This man is harmless, thinks he's important. he's just misguided," The crowd refused and Pilate, frustrated, unable to save the man he knows is innocent shrieks 'Don't let me stop your great self destruction, Die if you want to you misguided martyr. Die if you want to you innocent puppet. I wash my hands of your demolition." Overall, "Jesus Christ Super star" is an interpretation, a work of art, set to the structure of the newly rising genre of rock opera. The music is a combination of basic soul, slapstick satire, and tender ballad. The sum total effect of ''Superstar" is to bring the story of Christ to a level or easy association. Christ becomes the superstar. crowned and crucified by the same crowd. Unlike other fallen stars however, he manages to become the singlemost influential force in history, rising above the approval of the masses. D)iety, charlatan or dupe.
