Walker nu the middlE By MICHAEIL BAIL Palmetto Post writer In chess. after the openings have set the stage and before the end game stop the action, the middle game is the real play. The middle game is where the minds contest and where the strategy works or fails. Harry Walker may play USC's middle game. The petty politicians and playboys have set the stage for USC student government. SG presidents have traditionally aimed at playing a game for later careers. USC is where they made their real opening. The little men who had the chance to play the game for the students either forgot their loyalties or were unwilling to buck the powers-that-be. Walker may be the man to play the real game-the middle game. He seems to be the one to start the action that was merely alluded to before. Walker's being black is im portant. Not because he is the first black to be elected to his position, but because he has the experience and the intelligience to see what it J ,9 FOR NE STUDENT]I ty play game is like to be an underdog in life. He's a black student. Being a student in S.C. is almost as bad as being black--both minority groups are inferiors to be speak only when spoken to. The openings have been made to change the status of both students and blacks. If these people are to have a say at Carolina. Harry Walker will be the man to start the action--to play the middle game.
