That was as close as SPE was to come as KA rattled off 10 straight points before Doug Hamrick broke the scoring ice for SPE. With the score 17-8 and forty seconds remaining in the first quarter. Gregg Blatt brought the ball up the court for KA and dribbled out some :35 seconds at the five second line. Intent upon scoring the final bucket of the period. Blatt made his move to the basket with only a few seconds remaining. was fouled in the process and sank both free throws to make the score at the end of the first quarter KA 19-8. If there was any doubt as to the outcome of the contest after the first * quarter. KA squelched any such hopes with a 30-4 second period outbreak. Danny Workman. a demon on the boards offensively and defensively, led the second period KA surge with a 15 point total for that period alone. Workman finished the game with high scoring honors netting 30 points. half of those coming in the second period. SPE drew first blood in the second stanza as Jack Duffie bombed one of his 25 footers. the last points he would score until the fourth quarter. In effectively double teaming the SPE wingman. KA seemed to stymie the entire SPE offense until its reawakening in the fourth quarter. Trhe second half saw a con siderably more balanced contest as SPE tallied 32 points compared to KA's 37. The fourth quarter was dead even at 22 points apiece. Gary Bennett came off the bench to hit five of five field goals in the final quarter for SPE and Rick Rodden scored six points in the third period to go along with his four markers in the final quarter to wind up with 14) points.
