The Gamecocks recorded nine season best times in the high winds and 40 degree weather of Florida State's outdoor swimming pool as they nipped the highly ranked seminoles in a last minute thriller that was rated a "Fantastic job" by assistant Coach John Petty. "They (Fla. St.) underestimated us," stated head coach Allen Gentry. 'It was a real fine effort by a bunch of tough boys." Coach Gentry later added, "It's interesting to note that we lost to North Carolina by four points near the first of the season at Chapel Hill. but Flori4a State beat them 65-48 right after their recent loss to us."
