Student charged in bomb threats A USC student William P. Chupp of Union, was arrested Wednesday night in connection with a series of telephcned bomb threats to LeConte College. The first call was nade on November 20, followed by several 'i last week, according to a USC spokesman. Information leading to the arrest was gathered by University police and Southern Bell security personnel. A warrant for Chupp's arrest was signed by University police, and city police cooperated in making the arrest. Bond was set at $5,000. Chupp~ was still being held In Richland County Jail last night. Chemistry to probe r A great deal of research in the Department of Chemistry at the University of South Carolina is oriented towards solving some of the mysteries of the basic building unit of all substances: the molecule. The recent additions of two highly sophisticated instruments at Carolina will give molecular research at USC a big boost, say scientists who will use the equipment. One of the instruments, a nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, is the second most expensive piece of equipment on the campus - second only to the University's computer -- costing some $160,000.
