Hat 'has a phenomenal con pletion record, hitting on 14s of 239 passes for 1,674 yards and a 60.7 percentage. But Hart has only thrown three scoring tosses among Duke's eighteen touchdowns. Interestly enough, Chesson has not been on the receiving end of any one of those aerials. Besides Cheison, who is averaging almost seven receptions per game, Hart can throw to the multi-talented Jones, who is eight In the conference with 22 catches, or Bill Baker, who is tenth with 19. Jones has caught two of the three Hart touchdown passes to go with seven more scores on the ground. Jones is third in the ACC in rushing as he has hit the line 184 times for 778 yards, a 4.2 yard Rverage. He is also among the leaders in scoring, having eleven touchdowns for 66 points. The other Duke back, Bill Thompson, has rained 424 yards so far this season. With Jones racking up the yards a the ground and the Hart :hesson combo in the air Duke has een near the top of the ACC in tal offense all season. The Blue )evils are third in rushing offense nd second in both pass offense nd total offense. On the average very play the Devils run nets 4.8 ards. On the other side of the line the ron Dukes are paced by senior inebacker Dick Biddle. Head frosh boach Jackie Powers, who scouted he Blue Devils, rates Biddle as a inebacker in the Dick Butkus ,old. Duke's pass defense, which is second in the conference, has three iutstanding defensive backs. Junior Rich Searl has stolen five enemy passes and is com plimented by juniors Ernie Jackson and Mike Davies. The threesome has helped the Blue Devils to sixteen team in terceptions. The defensive line is anchored by end Bruce Mills. a 220 pound stahdet!t. But the Blue Devils in terior line is yielding an average of 201 yards per game on the ground to their opponents, which puts them near the ACC cellar in that category. Rusty Ganas his been switched to Wingard's spot, with Don Brant performing on the other flank. Beside Wingard and Hal, linebacker Greg Crabb will also be side lined for the game. Billy Ray Rice, the Gamecock's leading rusher who has missed the past two games is back from hand in juries but it is doubtful that he wi see action tomorrow night. Tommy Suggs, the most prolifi passer in USC's history, will enr his next to the last game ranked second in the ACC in total offense and third in passing. His favorite receivers include Doug Hamrick, with 35 receptions, and Jimmy Mitchell, with 29. Tommy Simmons led all rushers in the Tennessee game and wil balance a running attack that hed been rather anemic up to that point. He will be teamed up with sophomore Chuck Mimms in the backfield as Carolina will attempt to reestablish the running game which worked so well against the Vols. Jimmy Poston, the ACC defensive Player of the Week, heads a defensive line that is third in the ACC in rushing defense.
