"We are highly conservative. The other schools are doing the radical and way out things like GPR's. They offer classes in physics, fly-catching, British Literature and Theory of Football and give them the same weight. It's ridiculous. "You take six 'A' students and give them the same test six weeks later that they passed and most of them will get C's or even flunk. The vaccination wasn't successful." The theory at Coker is summed up by Turbeville in four points: "We try to teach the basic theory of discipline in an area. We want our students to have knowledge of the theories in that area, and perhaps create theories of their own. "We also want them to know the basic methodology of their area, and the basic trends and movements. Not memorizing stuff you forget in six weeks or giving a test with 'yes' and 'no' answers. The big questions of mankind are not answered 'yes' or 'no'. And we want the students to know the basic bibliography of their field, who the good writers to know are and where to look for information. "The lowest form of human intellectual ability is rote memorization, and the highest rorm is the ability to respond to lbstractions."
