BAi for M By FRED MONK Managing Editor State and University leaders will attend a luncheon tomorrow in hopes of boosting private funds for the College of Business Ad ministration's plan to become "one of the best in the country." Gov. Robert E. McNair, President Thomas F. Jones, James F. Kane, dean of the College of Business Administration, and several South Carolina business officials will be trying to obtain pledges from 55 New York based' firms. The purpose of the luncheon is to promote the BA school's "part nership in progress" program, which is soliciting funds from private industry which have substantial interests in South Carolina. The business school hopes to acquire $4.8 million in private funds for projects during the next five years. According to Kane, the school hopes to have that total amount pledged by the end of this year. At the moment Kane said that the school has almost reached its goal of attaining $1.5 million in private funds to help build a new Business Administration building later this year. "The private money is there," Kane said, "all we deed now is the support of the legislatute for the remainder." Kane said that the proposed BA school, which architectural plans have already been drawn, will amount to $5.1 million. The money the school receives is from the USC-Business Part nership Foundation, headed by Aurthur M. Williams, who is also president of the South Carolina Electric and Gas Co. "The state is getting a $5.1 million building for $3.6 million," the BA dean said, "which isn't a bad deal." Kane noted that with the amount 4 of private support the business school has received, it would be impossible for the state legislature not to notice the private backing.
